Online Psychotherapy

While our practice prioritizes the depth and attunement of inperson psychotherapy, we recognize that online therapy can be a meaningful alternative for certain individuals. Online sessions are conducted through a secure video platform and offer a flexible way to access support when attending in person is not possible. Although virtual therapy cannot fully replicate the nuance, presence, and relational depth of being in the same room, it can still provide a supportive space for reflection, insight, and emotional growth.

Online psychotherapy is most effective when the individual has enough stability, privacy, and internal resources to engage meaningfully through a screen. For many, it serves as a bridge during life transitions, periods of travel, or temporary circumstances that make inoffice sessions difficult.

Who May Benefit From Online Psychotherapy

Online therapy can be a good fit for individuals who:

  • Have mild to moderate emotional concerns
Such as stress, life transitions, relationship challenges, or general anxiety.

  • Are stable and functioning well overall
And are seeking support, insight, or guidance rather than crisis intervention.

  • Have reliable access to a private, quiet space
Where they can speak freely without fear of being overheard.

  • Prefer the convenience of remote sessions
Due to travel, work schedules, mobility limitations, or temporary logistical barriers.

  • Are already established in therapy
And need continuity of care during times when inperson attendance is not possible.

  • Live in areas with limited access to specialized clinicians
And benefit from the ability to connect with a therapist who fits their needs.

Who May Not Be A Good Candidate for Online Psychotherapy

Because online therapy has inherent limitations, it is not recommended for individuals who:

  • Are experiencing acute crisis or highrisk situations
Including active suicidality, severe selfharm behaviors, or significant safety concerns.

  • Have severe or unstable mental health symptoms
Such as unmanaged psychosis, severe dissociation, or rapidly shifting emotional states.

  • Lack a private, confidential environment
Making it difficult to speak openly or engage in meaningful therapeutic work.

  • Struggle with attention, grounding, or emotional regulation
In ways that require the containment and support of an inperson setting.

  • Need specialized, experiential, or somatic modalities
That rely on physical presence, movement, or inroom interventions.

  • Prefer or require the deeper relational attunement
That is best achieved when therapist and client share the same physical space.

For these individuals, inperson psychotherapy remains the most effective and clinically appropriate option, offering greater safety, attunement, and therapeutic depth.

Our Approach

At Greater Heights Behavioral Health, we view online therapy as a supportive extension of our inperson work—not a replacement for it. When appropriate, virtual sessions can help maintain continuity, provide shortterm support, or offer flexibility during times of transition.

We work collaboratively with each individual to determine whether online therapy is clinically suitable and aligned with their goals.
